The Galleria Campari is located in the historical old Campari industrial plant in Sesto san Giovanni, the gallery hosts a permanent collection dedicated to posters, advertising sketches, design objects and merchandising that have characterized Campari's advertising from the late 19th century to the present day. Along with interactive installations, the gallery includes iconic original posters from the Belle Époque, drawings, sketches, and artist's books created by important figures such as Dudovich, Nizzoli, Cappiello, Depero, and Munari. Galleria Campari also recounts the deep relationship between Campari and the world of cinema, an art explored since the 1960s and 1970s with carousels and TV commercials by famous directors who collaborated with the brand, such as Fellini and Singh Tarsem, along with short films signed by Sorrentino, Sollima and Garrone.
Here you are a brief description of the event organised by Chiara, our volunteer:
The event took place on Sunday the 14th of April. We met at 15.30 at the nearest metro stop in Sesto Primo maggio and walked together to the Galleria Campari. We started the visit at 4 pm and visited the Galleria following the audio guide that was available both in english and italian from the mobile and was included in the ticket. The visit took around 1 hour and a half where we could witness the artwork of Italian and international designers who designed manifestos and advertisements for Campari, including Depero, who also designed the Campari bottle. The second part of the visit focused on the visual advertisement materials and short movies that also involved famous movie directors like fellini and famous testimonials and actors. The third part focused on famous design objects developed by and for Campari and the last part was a temporary photo collection. At the end of the tour we received an “Aperitivo to go” with some snacks and a small campari bottle.
At the end of the tour we spontaneously decided to go and have an aperitivo with the erasmus student. Each participant paid an 8 Euro fee for the entrance ticket. The participants enjoyed the visit and were surprised to discover the history of Campari and its design. They also enjoyed visiting a less conventional type of museum and the ticket also included a free gift and the audioguide.
