The goal of the activity was to share alternative ways of making purchases in a sustainable way.By attending local markets and buying vintage and second-hand items the aim was to make them develop new ways of sustainable consumption that may be implemented on a more regular babis.
Before the event our volunteer, Chiara, shared with the participants some guidelines on why buying at the market is sustainable and some suggestions to make more conscious purchases, together with some useful italian sentences to use at the market.
The event took place at the Mercato di Papinniano in Viale Papinniano. They first met at 9.45 and had breakfast at the Pasticceria Martesana in front of the market.
At around 10.15 the group started the tour. Chiara first explained to the participants some useful information. For instance, most of the items to be found at the local markets are second-hand or deadstock, what to check before buying something and other markets to visit around Milan.
They then moved to the beginning of the market and walked all the way through the stands in Viale Papinniano, checking stands and commenting on the clothes we found.
At around 12 the group moved to the food area, where they also bought some fruit and vegetables from local vendors.
Participants were happy about the experience. The weather was nice and we could enjoy the experience and explore the market stall at their own pace.
