Bees are vital for the preservation of the ecosystem: it is estimated that 90% of wild plants and 75% of food crops depend on these small insects, one third of the food we consume depends on pollination.
Unfortunately, their numbers are decreasing year after year due to pesticides, monocultures, parasites and climate change. The pollination, that bees offer free of charge, is worth 265 billion euros a year, an exorbitant amount that makes it clear how important these animals are.
A report from the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) states that nearly 10% of European wild pollinators are at risk of extinction. Bees, of course, are not doing well. According to CIA (Italian Farmers Confederation) data, in the last decade 10 million beehives have disappeared in the world, 200,000 in Italy alone.
To help preserve them, ESN Unicatt Milano decided to adopt a hive in Italy through 3bee, the website allows you to choose what breed of bees you want, your hive to have and what kind of honey they will produce. Our beehive will be monitored remotely and we can follow the bees development and growth throughout the year.
